Home

Kiki and I have been home for almost a week now. Admittedly, it's strange to come back to a place you thought you knew so well and have it all be entirely different. We've done a lot of shopping and laying by the pool - and we've done A LOT of laughing. Canada is good for a laugh. We're worried about apathy though - which, as far as I've heard, is a common struggle for those coming off the missions field - allow me to explain why.

It's not hard here. It's not hard to be in Canada, it's not hard to work and live here - and it's comfortable - our family and friends are generally a short drive away, the ministry is easier, the people are friendlier, the groceries are cheaper! So you can see how easily one might settle into apathy when their surroundings are undeniably more comfortable than those one the front lines. So it's not easy - and I doubt it will get easier. Trying to carve out a new place for ourselves in old surroundings is frustrating and can definitely leave you a little lonely. It's easy to feel that no one understands what it was like for you on the missions field and no one really knows just how tired you are - but I think they sometimes do. I think it's easy to see how spiritually and emotionally tired people are when they come off of a long missions trip - I like to believe God makes it obvious so people know how and what to pray.

So, all in all, our trip home was stressful, the airport was beautiful and surreal, "home" is less like home and more like a taking off point and our friends and family - well, we realize more and more why we missed them so much. We are richly blessed.

Much Love,
Jen and Kiki
